Çantamarta has emerged as a breeze of fresh air on the national stage as one of the new bands that provides the greatest diversity of rhythms, genres and messages. The cross-border group formed in 2018 by a combo from Venezuela and two Andalusians has succeeded in establishing new aspects in the so-called new wave of urban music in Spanish.
Çantamarta advocates a musical context that merges different genres such as R&B, neo-soul, hip hop and house with the influence of cultural and musical elements of the Latin American Caribbean: an evident mixture in the stories, characters and slang with which each song is composed.
“We like to create and play with the flow offered by the diversity of sounds and stories. We look for spaces in which we find a difference, like what happens daily in our relationships with friends and partners, always with fondness and admiration for our influences, whether Juan Luis Guerra, A Tribe Called Quest or Camarón”.
