The singer from Cape Verde, who will be accompanied by her fellow citizen Djodje Almeida on the acoustic guitar, invites us on a journey through her albums, from Navega (2006) to Manga (2019), to rediscover some of her songs. Mayra will give us the opportunity to listen, in an intimate atmosphere and in her warm voice full of energy, some of the most beautiful pieces she has composed.
Born in Cuba and raised in Cape Verde, Senegal, Angola and Germany, Mayra Andrade currently lives between Paris and Lisbon. A self-taught musician, with her first album Navega (2006) she rose to prominence amongst the many talented performers of the African archipelago, bearing witness, with her unique style, to the great local voices like that of Cesária Évora. Indeed, Mayra is a perfect example of how enriching cosmopolitan nomadism and miscegenation can be. Her warm and sensual voice brings us exquisite performances of pieces that range from morna, batuku, funanà, coladeira, batuque, tropicalism, afrobeat to other world music, to which she incorporates her personal touch in jazz mode, which she says "reflect my life".
She has collaborated with Jacques Morelenbaum and has recorded with producers such as Alé Siqueira, recognised for his work for Tom Zé, Marisa Monte and Caetano Veloso.
