A brilliant script, frenetic plot, spectacular choreographies, legendary score, catchy songs (‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Razzle-Dazzle’)… are many of the reasons that made Chicago the second-longest running musical on Broadway, behind The Phantom of the Opera.
Set in the turbulent decade of the 1920s, the musical tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her lover when he threatens to leave her.
Desperate to avoid being convicted, she deceives the public, the media and her cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring the city’s  most skilled criminal lawyer, who succeeds in transforming her wicked crime in an avalanche of sensational headlines.
The show is based on the play published in 1926 by the journalist Maurine Dallas, inspired by the real crimes she had been assigned to cover for the Chicago Tribune.
Premiered in 36 countries, and with more than 33 million spectators, it has won over 60 international awards, including six Tony Awards, two Oliver Awards and one Grammy.
In 2002 it was adapted to film by Rob Marshall as Director and a cast headed by Renée Zellweger (Roxie Hart), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Velma Kelly) and Richard Gere (Billy Flynn). The film won six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress (Catherine Zeta-Jones).
This is the third version of the musical made in Spain.
